Quarterly Technical Report |
January to March 2009 |
Introduction
At the end of March 2009, there were 21 repositories within the ASDD with a
total of 26,537 dataset descriptions available for searching. However, the
Australian Antarctic Data Centre and
WALIS ASDD nodes were down at that time.
Statistics are provided for the ASDD covering:
- web access statistics,
- gateway statistics,
- number of records at each repository,
- reliability of repository,
for the months of January, February and March 2009.
Repositories which have provided descriptions are also listed.
Achievements during past quarter
- There are more basic and less advanced searches this quarter than last
quarter.
- Overall there are less searches than last quarter.
- There are less visitors but more accesses to the ASDD this
quarter than last quarter.
- Some Z39.50 search errors may be caused by poor metadata content. Some
metadata discrepancies are highlighted in the
advanced results report.
Node managers are encouraged to review this report regularly.
-
Congratulations to:
Australian Hydrographic Office - Product Metadata,
Australian Hydrographic Office - Publication Metadata,
Australian Hydrographic Office - Source Metadata,
Bureau of Meteorology,
Geoscience Australia,
PSMA Australia Limited and
Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Water Data
for having valid ANZLIC Version 2 metadata.
- Congratulations to:
Bureau of Meteorology and
Geoscience Australia
for being available 100% of the time during this
quarter.
- The Australian Antarctic Data Centre ASDD node was unavailable for all
of this quarter.
- The WALIS nodes were not available for this quarter.
- Due to circumstances beyond Geoscience Australia's control the ASDD gateways
were unavailable at:
- 2009-03-06T21:30+11,
- 2009-03-06T22:30+11,
- 2009-03-18T16:30+11 and
- 2009-03-16T17:30+11.
This represents
4 hours of the whole quarter which is less that 0.2% of the total time.
Web Statistics for ASDD
This quarter's statistics for the ASDD are
available for the period 2009-01-01 to 2009-03-31.
A summary of this quarter's statistics follows:

Gateway Usage
The following statistics are a summary of the ASDD basic and ASDD advanced
gateways:
ASDD Basic Gateway
- 30685 searches were made through the ASDD basic gateway.
- 1584 single search terms were used.
- 29101 multiple search terms were used.
The following links provide more details on the monthly basic gateway statistics:
ASDD Advanced Gateway
- 2387 searches were made through the ASDD advanced gateway.
- 924 single search terms were used.
- 1463 multiple search terms were used.
The following links provide more details on the monthly advanced gateway statistics:
Repository Records
The following table lists the repositories, the DTD used, the number
of records parsed per repository and the number of XML records that validated
some time during April 2009.
Note:
- The content of the ANZMETA-1.3 metadata records were validated using the
RELAXNG schema.
- These results take a long time to generate and May show different numbers
to those of the monthly accesses. This could be due to nodes adding
metadata to their repositories, some repositories not properly responding to
the Z39.50 queries or not having records available in XML format.
- 93% of the ASDD records were available in XML format for validation.
This is less than last quarter.
- 79% of XML records that were parsed are valid. This is less
than the last quarter.
- 6 repositories have 100% valid ANZLIC Version 2 metadata records,
which is less than last quarter.
- 16 repositories are using or partially using ANZMETA-1.3.DTD or its
extension, which is less then last quarter.
- Six ASDD nodes were not available for checking.
- "Not available" means that the server did
not respond appropriately to the query at the time of investigation.
